David T. Fischer entered his family business, a Troy-based automotive dealership called Suburban Oldsmobile (the only dealership at that time), as a service advisor back in 1968. Since then David Fischer has put his heart and soul into the business, growing its outreach and ultimately putting it on the map as the Michigan’s largest privately held automotive group. Now, David T. Fischer is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of The Suburban Collection – Michigan’s largest privately held automotive group and 16th largest in the country – and he’s still just as passionate about taking care of customers as he was on his first day as an advisor.
David T. Fischer studied Business at Parsons College in Iowa and joined the team at Suburban Oldsmobile with a unique perspective: the group needed to offer brand diversity, but keep its focus on its roots in Southeastern Michigan. Now, The Suburban Collection is the largest privately-held automotive group in Michigan. It encompasses 36 brands at over 52 locations throughout Michigan, as well as throughout the Midwest and Southern California. Additionally, the automotive group operates state-of-the-art collision centers, accessories distribution centers, fleet management and retrofitting services throughout the U.S. and Canada.
David T. Fischer has received numerous automotive industry honors, including the Time Magazine “Quality Dealer” Award; the General Motors “Dealer of the Year” Award; and Ford Motor Company’s “Salute to Dealers” Award for automotive excellence and community service. David Fischer is President and Chairman Emeritus of the North American International Auto Show and has served on dealer councils as advisor to several automakers.
Through The Suburban Collection, David T. Fischer cherishes his ability to provide not only a greater selection of automobile brands, but also to provide all the automotive needs to valued customers. The Collection dealerships provide comprehensive services, including sales of both new and used cars and light trucks, sales of replacement auto parts, vehicle maintenance, warranty repairs, paint and collision repair services, and arrangement of extended service contracts, financing and insurance for customers.
David T. Fischer is a member of the State of Michigan Judicial Tenure Commission and serves on the Board of Trustees for the College for Creative Studies. There, he led the financing and renovation of the historic Argonaut building on the CCS campus and was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Fine Arts from CCS. Fischer also serves on the Board of Trustees for The Community Foundation, and is a past Chair of the Board of Trustees for Oakland University. He has also served on the Board of WTVS and is a supporter of Public Television in Detroit.
Both personally and through his company, David T. Fischer is very involved within the Michigan community. He, along with The Suburban Collection, are proud supporters of more than 50 organizations, focused especially on children, cancer research, education and basic needs throughout Southeast Michigan. They include the Children’s Tumor Foundation; Kids Kicking Cancer; and Gleaners Community Food Bank. You can follow his efforts on his philanthropic website!
